How to Turn User Account Control on or off in Windows 7

Sunday, 15 August 2010 06:05 by Alexandr.Skripnik

User Account Control (UAC) can help you prevent unauthorized changes to your computer. It works by prompting you for permission when a task requires administrative rights, such as installing software or changing settings that affect other users.

We don't recommend turning User Account Control off. If you do turn it off, you should turn it back on as soon as possible.

Open User Accounts by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking User Accounts and Family Safety (or clicking User Accounts, if you are connected to a network domain), and then clicking User Accounts.

Click Turn User Account Control on or off. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Select the Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer check box to turn on UAC, or clear the check box to turn off UAC, and then click OK.

How to uninstall Avast (if add/remove programs option is not working)

Wednesday, 4 August 2010 02:10 by Alexandr.Skripnik

Sometimes it´s not possible to uninstall avast! the standard way - using the ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS in control panel. In this case, you can use our uninstallation utility aswClear.

1. Download aswClear5.exe on your desktop. (Use this link for download: http://files.avast.com/files/eng/aswclear5.exe)
2. Start Windows in Safe Mode
3. Open (execute) the uninstall utility
4. If you installed avast! in a different folder than the default, browse for it. (Note: Be careful! The content of any folder you choose will be deleted!)
5. Click REMOVE
6. Restart your computer.

Error while downloading files in Firefox: "Source file could not be read"

Sunday, 27 June 2010 15:20 by Alexandr.Skripnik

When attempting to download and save a file in the browser, you may see an error message similar to the following:

File could not be saved, because the source file could not be read. Try again later, or contact the server administrator.

This error can occur if the connection to the server was interrupted during the download. Make sure you are connected to the internet, then try the download again. If the problem persists, try these other solutions:

This error can occur after pausing and then resuming a download. Try downloading large files in a single step, without pausing. (It is possible that your security software is scanning and locking the file, which may still be in the system temporary folder after you pause the download. If Firefox can't access the file then resuming the download will fail.)

If you are using a Firefox extension to manage your downloads, try disabling the extension via "Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions".

Another possible solution is to close Firefox completely and delete the "compreg.dat" file from the Firefox profile folder (for Windows Vista or 7: In the "Start Search" or "Search programs and files" box, type in:  %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles).

How to clean up Live Essentials

Saturday, 26 June 2010 18:26 by Alexandr.Skripnik

How to clean up Live Essentials

Installing Windows Live Essentials will get you the new versions of Mail, Movie Maker, Photo Gallery and others - great. Unfortunately it also includes other components that may be unnecessary, but if you like to keep a clean system then these can be quickly removed.

If you left the default "Set your search provider" option selected during installation, for instance, Windows Live will install Choice Guard, a tool to set your browser home page and search engine, and prevent other programs from changing them. If this causes problems later, or you just decide you don't need it, then Choice Guard may be removed by clicking Start, typing msiexec /x and pressing [Enter].

Windows Live Essentials also adds an ActiveX Control to help upload your files to Windows Live SkyDrive, as well as the Windows Live Sign-in Assistant, which makes it easier to manage and switch between multiple Windows Live accounts. If you're sure you'll never need either then remove them with the Control Panel "Uninstall a Program" applet.

Delete a table without losing the data or table formatting (Excel 2010)

Saturday, 26 June 2010 08:49 by Alexandr.Skripnik

After you create a table in Microsoft Office Excel, you might not want to keep working with the table functionality that it includes. Or you might want a table style without the table functionality. To stop working with your data in a table without losing any table style formatting that you applied, you can convert the table to a regular range of data on the worksheet.

 1.GIF

 1. Click anywhere in the table.

Tip This displays the Table Tools, adding the Design tab. A cell in the table must be selected for the Design tab to be visible.

 2. On the Design tab, in the Tools group, click Convert to Range.

 2.GIF

Table features are no longer available after you convert the table back to a range. For example, the row headers no longer include the sort and filter arrows, and structured references (references that use table names) that were used in formulas turn into regular cell references.
